“IBS is ideal for treatment with hypnosis, as there is no structural damage to the body. During hypnotherapy people learn how to influence and gain control of their gut function and then seem to be able to change the way the brain modulates their gut activity

Prof Whorwell, Gastroenterologist, 2005

In IBS the gut does not function normally: the regular rhythms and contractions of the gut are disrupted leading to unpleasant and painful symptoms. And this disrupted pattern becomes the new normal. Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy helps you retrain your gut to function more normally again.

Medical research has shown that:

  • Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy has been medically proven to effectively help with IBS symptoms. Treatment helps both symptoms in the gut such as bloating, pain, irregular bowel habit, and other symptoms too such as fatigue, back pain, anxiety and depression.
  • No medication is required.
  • In 76% of cases Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy reduced individual experience of IBS symptoms by 50% or more.
  • 83% of responders remain well after 5+ years.
  • Gut-Focused Hypnotherapy has been shown to help with other gut conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease symptoms, Non-cardiac chest pain, functional dyspepsia, SIBO and IMO). It is recommended as a treatment for IBS by NICE (National Institute of Care and Clinical Excellence)

Results are not guaranteed and vary by individual.

Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy uses tried, tested and proven psychological techniques including hypnosis. Hypnosis is often misunderstood. Thanks to stage shows, many people have the impression that being hypnotised means you can be controlled by the hypnotist. Used therapeutically hypnosis is a safe and gentle psychological technique that has been used by clinicians for years. You cannot be asked to do anything against your will and there is no involuntary loss of control. You remain in charge, and benefit from what is an effective, quick acting tool for fast change.

“Honestly, I really didn’t know what to expect. I thought that it wouldn’t work for me because it didn’t include taking medication or a physical change of sorts. Something I found really helpful was the meditations that Antonia recorded which I could load onto my phone and play through headphones whenever I wanted. I couldn’t fault a thing. I wish the time went slower!  Without sounding like a cliché, it honestly has changed my life. I’ve learnt tools which have been transferable to other anxieties and I’ve learnt the power of my own mind and thoughts.”

What’s it like?

Being taken into a therapeutic hypnotic trance is a relaxing experience. You drift into a daydream like state, your awareness of the world around you lessens and you focus inwards lost in thought.. Then, when you are ready and choose to, you are able to fully re-engage with the outside world in an instant. You are in charge of the trance and remain in control throughout.

The impact of treatment with GDH can be transformative and has been described as ‘life changing’. Nevertheless, there is no known cure for IBS. Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy can markedly improve symptoms and gut function, but a tendency to gastrointestinal upset will remain.

I ask that you please seek a medical diagnosis of your gut issue from your doctor before having gut-directed hypnotherapy treatment.

I qualify for my treatments to be covered by certain Private Healthcare cash plans, though please check your individual policy for confirmation: Medicash, The Heath Insurance Group, Pure Benefits, Westfield Health, Health Shield, Elect and Paycare.
